Description
Irreecha is the Oromo people’s annual thanksgiving festival, observed at the start of the spring season (Birraa) following the rainy season. People celebrate Irreecha by rivers and lakes, often dressed in traditional attire, to offer thanks to Waaqaa (Almighty God) for blessings and to welcome a season of abundance and harvest. More than a celebration of gratitude, the festival strengthens bonds of unity and peace and reflects the essence of Oromo cultural identity. The celebration is marked by songs, dances, blessings, and communal feasts.
